After receiving my PhD in organic chemistry I started a 20+ year career in chemistry Research and Development. Roles involved both conducting highly sophisticated research, mentoring new empolyees and serving as a Reserch Director. This experience has given me real world connections to science that enables me to teach science with connections beyond the classroom.
After I retired from industry, I taught middle school science (eighth grade) for 5 years in the Alief ISD. Student abilities ranged from Special Eduction to Advanced Placement. I also can teach HS science. I also tutored college level chemistry. I can prepare students for the TAKS, SAT, ACT and MCAT.
I believe science is most easily learned when textbook concepts are connected to student experiences in the real world. Students learn by a combination of various strategies and I employ various techniques to promote learning.
One of my greatest teaching strengths is to make complex concepts easy to understand.
